Carol’s Garden
On Saturday, August 30th, First Baptist Church graciously welcomed about 200 guests to the opening of "Carol's Garden". The date of the Garden opening marked the first anniversary of the passing of Deaconess Carol Sallie Baxter for whom the Garden honors. Rev. Smith had the vision to create this garden in Carol's memory and has been tenacious, tireless, dedicated and focused in seeing it through. While most of us could not visualize this beautiful oasis in the small space of the churchyard, or could not begin to understand how we would fund such an effort, Rev. Smith did not give up. Through the generosity of the community, corporations, service companies and private citizens, this public Garden is now a reality. Please click the "In Memory" tab on the left side of the screen to view our tribute to Carol and to learn more about the Garden.
